Japanese denim has a recognizable selvedge.
Usually the denim has a red, green or white stripe. This type of denim is also called 'Selvedge denim'. This ensures a nice finish on the inside of the jeans. The selvedge replaces finishing with the overlocker.
WORKING WITH JAPANESE DENIM FABRICS
These sturdy jeans fabrics require a strong needle to assemble your garment: a universal needle 90 or 100, or special jeans needles. For topstitching the seams with thicker thread you can use a topstitch needle.
